The Goonies set for a comeback, with reports of a sequel.

Iconic 80s kids film The Goonies is reportedly set for a comeback.

The UK Sun newspaper has quoted a source as saying “The Goonies reboot has been talked about for a long time but it’s finally been given the green light to go ahead.

“The plan is to start developing the ideas for the follow up next summer, with a possible release date of 2026 or 2027.

The source went on to say it was “likely” some of the bigger names from the original would come back for the sequel.

The 1985 adventure comedy starred then childstars Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton. It told the story of a group of kids who live in the "Goon Docks" neighbourhood of Astoria, Oregon, trying to save their homes from foreclosure.

In doing so, they discover an old treasure map that takes them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate.

During the adventure, they are chased by a family of criminals who want the treasure for themselves.
