The Eternaut.. Argentina wins the World Cup in drama
This series is an event on several levels. It's an event for Spanish-speaking comic book fans (and comic book professionals in general), as one of the most famous and influential comic book stories in the history of Argentina and Latin America in general is being adapted into a compelling work that will be shown worldwide.
It's an addition to the Latin American fantasy arts (which has spawned "magical realism" literature, Frida Kahlo's illustrations, and the films of Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso CuarĂ³n, among other masterpieces), and Latin American comics are finally making their way to the world (albeit more than half a century late).
The series is an event for fans of the original story, whose characters have become popular heroes and national symbols, not just in Argentina, but across the entire continent.
It's also an achievement for Argentine drama, which has seen the series top viewership in over 27 countries (not all of them Spanish-speaking, including Germany, India, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia). It's also been praised by most critics, with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This comes at a time when Argentina's film and drama industries, and the economy in general, are suffering from a crisis. It's perhaps the country's biggest achievement since winning the FIFA World Cup three years ago.
