Trump is considering allocating additional funds to provide weapons to Ukraine.
CBS News, citing informed sources, reported on Saturday that US President Donald Trump is considering, for the first time since the beginning of his presidency, allocating additional funds for military support to Ukraine.
The channel noted that the source of the potential new funding is "unknown," explaining that Trump has approximately $3.85 billion remaining from the funds allocated by the previous Joe Biden administration to provide weapons to Ukraine.
These funds were allocated through a mechanism that allows the US president, in an emergency, to provide weapons to a foreign partner by executive order without the need for congressional approval.
CBS reported that Trump may use these funds to supply weapons to Kyiv. According to the channel's sources, this move would serve as a "signal to Russia."
At the same time, the channel noted that Trump may transfer $5 billion in frozen Russian assets in the United States to Ukraine, noting that neither current US president Trump nor former US president Biden had ever resorted to such a measure.
Politico reported on Friday, citing its sources, that Trump was considering supplying Ukraine with a new package of US weapons and military equipment worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the United States had resumed arms supplies to Ukraine.
In the same context, Reuters reported similar information last Thursday, adding that the value of the new arms supplies could reach $300 million.
