Typhoon Pualoi hits Vietnam, causing floods, landslides, and airport closures. The hurricane had wind speeds of 133 kilometers per hour.

After killing 11 people in the Philippines, tropical storm Puloy hit central Vietnam, causing floods, landslides, and airport closures, Vietnamese state media reported on Sunday.

The storm, which was strengthened by warm sea conditions and moving at unusual speed, made landfall in central Vietnam on Sunday evening, earlier than previously expected.

Accompanied by maximum sustained winds exceeding 130 kilometers per hour at the center of the storm, it became a typhoon and struck the coast north of Vinh City in Nghe An Province.

However, the typhoon's outer waves had already caused flooding in central regions, with flooding reported in the coastal city of Da Nang on Saturday.

Meteorologists in Vietnam warned that the typhoon could cause flash floods, landslides, and waves up to two meters high along the coast.

Vietnam closed airports and evacuated thousands of people in areas likely to be affected by Typhoon Pulaui, which strengthened as it barreled toward the country, days after it killed at least 10 people and caused widespread flooding in the Philippines.

The Vietnam Meteorological Agency said the typhoon, with wind speeds of up to 133 kilometers per hour, was expected to make landfall in central Vietnam late Sunday, earlier than previously forecast due to its fast movement.

The government said that authorities in the central province of Ha Tinh had begun evacuating more than 15,000 people, adding that thousands of soldiers were on standby.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said operations at four coastal airports, including Danang International Airport, were suspended as of Sunday, and several flights have been rescheduled.

The government said heavy rains have already caused flooding in Hue and Quang Tri.
