New case: Court threatens to demolish Messi's luxury home.
Press reports revealed that Argentine star Lionel Messi faces a new case before the Spanish judiciary, after authorities opened an investigation into a luxury villa he owns in Ibiza. It is suspected that part of it was built in violation of building regulations in a nature reserve.
According to media reports, including the French newspaper Foot Mercato, the property is valued at approximately 11 million euros and is located in one of the island's most environmentally sensitive areas.
The report added: Investigations revealed that some components of the basement, such as the garage and side annexes, were not included in the original plan for the house. As a result, the municipality refused to issue an official residential certificate and initiated legal proceedings for "serious violations" of the urban planning law.
"Demolition" is a possible option
The report indicated that if Messi failed to remove the illegal parts, authorities could issue an administrative demolition order for those parts. However, sources close to the player confirmed that the illegal activities occurred before Messi purchased the property in 2022, noting that the Argentine star and his lawyer were unaware of these matters at the time of the purchase. The case comes at a time when Ibiza is experiencing increased urban scrutiny, particularly against luxury buildings in areas reportedly built on a nature reserve.
This isn't the first time Messi's home has been the subject of controversy. In 2024, the same property was vandalized by environmental activists who accused the Argentine star of contributing to the "privatization" of land and the destruction of the island's natural environment.
