She revealed her true identity at the end of the program: a virtual broadcaster presenting a documentary on British television.
A British television station aired a program on Monday evening about the changes that artificial intelligence is bringing to the job market, using an AI-generated presenter instead of a real journalist.
The presenter, identified as Aisha Ghaban, a brunette with medium-length hair, emphasized that "artificial intelligence will affect everyone's lives in the coming years. Some will lose their jobs: call center employees, customer service employees, and maybe even TV presenters like me."
She didn't reveal her true identity until the end of the program, saying, "I don't exist," explaining that she was a presenter on British television created by artificial intelligence.
"I wasn't on the ground to cover this story. Artificial intelligence generated my image and voice," she added, appearing in various locations in the documentary.
"Will AI take my job?"
This documentary, titled "Will AI Take My Job?", explores the transformations AI will bring to the workplace in several sectors, particularly music, fashion, medicine, and law.The documentary was broadcast by Channel 4, the British public television channel, as part of its investigative program "Dispatches." Louisa Compton, the channel's head of media, said, "Channel 4 will not regularly employ an AI-generated presenter."
She added, "On the contrary, our priority remains qualitative, proven, unbiased, and reliable journalism, something that artificial intelligence cannot provide."
She continued, saying that this experience is "a useful reminder of the potential negative impact of artificial intelligence, and how easily the public can be misled by content they cannot verify by any means."
AI-generated presenters have already graced television screens in several countries, particularly India, and since 2018, news bulletins for China's official Xinhua News Agency have been presented by digital versions of the presenters.
