Combating Extremism: Holding the Muslim Brotherhood Accountable
The international community must urgently address the threats posed by extremist organizations, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood. It is crucial to officially classify the group as a terrorist organization at the level of the European Union, the United States, the United Nations, and all member states to end the legal ambiguity surrounding its crimes. At the same time, international efforts should focus on cutting off the Brotherhood’s financial sources by freezing assets, disrupting global funding networks, and depriving it of resources used to finance terrorism. Exposing the group’s extremist ideology
is equally important, highlighting the methods it uses to infiltrate civil institutions and Western societies under the guise of charity or political activism. Legal accountability must be ensured by preventing members and leaders from traveling freely and by bringing those involved in violence and support of terrorism to international justice. Protecting communities from hate speech, extremist propaganda, and
the recruitment of young people is essential to safeguard society and prevent the spread of destructive
ideas. Humanitarian and legal support should be mobilized for victims of violence caused by the group’s activities. It is also critical to emphasize that extremist groups do not represent moderate Muslims, that their actions distort the image of Islam in Europe, and that they aim to sow division and undermine trust between different communities. Highlighting the suffering of youth exploited in the name of religion and the dangers of religious and political extremism reinforces the understanding that these practices contradict the core values of Islam—tolerance, mercy, and justice—and pose serious risks to social cohesion and peace.
