Rooney fiercely criticizes Salah: Your presence is the reason for Liverpool's "suffering".
English football legend Wayne Rooney has urged Liverpool manager Arne Sloat to get rid of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah so that he can stop the suffering of the team, which is reeling from defeats in the English Premier League.
Liverpool's struggles in the English Premier League continued after they lost 3-0 to Nottingham Forest on Saturday at their home ground, Anfield, in front of their own fans.
Despite Liverpool spending more than half a billion euros in last summer's transfer window on players such as Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekilli, the team led by Slott is in poor form.
One of those who are suffering the most is Salah, after a stunning season in 2024-2025, when he scored 57 in 52 games, but this season he has only scored five goals in 17 matches.
The 33-year-old was ineffective in attack, while other clubs exploited his defensive weaknesses as a means of attacking Liverpool – according to the British newspaper, the Daily Mail.
Rooney stressed that it was time for the Liverpool manager to be tough on Salah, and the former Manchester United striker said on "The Win Rooney" program: "If I were Slott, I would make a big decision for the good of the team."
He added: Salah is not helping the team defensively. If you are one of the players that Liverpool signed and you are on the bench and you see him not running, what message does that send you? It is true that he is a club legend and we know everything he has done for Liverpool.
Rooney urged Liverpool fans to stop talking about former manager Jurgen Klopp, adding: “The team is going through a tough time. Perhaps you should look at the impact of what unfortunately happened to Jota, and the effect that has had on the players, but there is no excuse not to fight. I think Slott has a big job to do to get the Reds back to winning ways.”
He added: The big problem is that when this negative streak happens, Klopp's name is mentioned. It's similar to what happened at Manchester United with Sir Alex Ferguson, but Slott is not of Jurgen's quality, and Liverpool fans need to stay away from that and stand with him.
Liverpool have lost 6 of their last 7 Premier League games and are currently in 11th place.
