Work pressures spark debate over the human cost of the highly anticipated GTA 6 release date

The delays have already pushed the release date of Grand Theft Auto VI further down the schedule, and the latest reports from inside Rockstar Games indicate that the schedule pressure has not eased.

Employees describe a situation where the burden of adhering to management's revised schedules falls directly on development teams, with long hours and unpaid overtime becoming commonplace in recent weeks.

Reports quoted a review on the Glassdoor website from a quality assurance analyst at Rockstar in Bangalore, India - one of the software development centers - stating that the workload had become unrealistic, according to a report by the technology news website Digital Trends, which was reviewed by Al Arabiya Business.

The employee claims that overtime work is expected but unpaid, and that some colleagues were forced to work until 3 a.m. even after completing a full day's work.
Also, projects that used to take five to six months are now being compressed into just two to three months, making it difficult to keep up with this pace.
He also adds that raising these concerns internally did not help, leaving many feeling stressed, strained, and exhausted.

Intense work periods have been associated with the name "Rockstar Games" for years. As work on Red Dead Redemption 2 neared completion, reports emerged of extremely long work weeks, sometimes reaching 100 hours, leading to sharp criticism of the company.

Game development studio leaders later acknowledged the problem and affirmed their commitment to improving work-life balance. However, recent employee accounts suggest these changes are not being implemented equally across all teams.

The sheer size of GTA 6 adds another layer of pressure. It's one of the most anticipated releases in the entertainment world, so expectations are incredibly high.
The delays have only increased interest in the project. For developers, this often means tighter deadlines, especially as the project approaches critical milestones.

The gaming industry in general has a long history of intensive work periods before major releases. Developers and testers often experience the greatest pressure in the final stage, when bugs, delays, and marketing promises intertwine.
Players may be disappointed if GTA 6 is delayed again, but for employees, avoiding such a delay could mean longer workdays, unpaid overtime, and increased burnout.
