Apple thwarted $9 billion in fraudulent transactions through its App Store.

Apple released the latest figures from its annual analysis of fraudulent activities in its App Store, saying it has prevented more than $9 billion in fraudulent transactions over the past five years.

According to the analysis published Tuesday on the company's website, these threats range from malicious actors targeting App Store users to fraudulent apps that steal personal information to fraudulent payment schemes.

Apple prevented more than $2 billion in fraudulent transactions in 2024 alone.

The company said it identified nearly 4.7 million stolen credit cards and blocked more than 1.6 million accounts from making further transactions.

It added that in 2024, it closed more than 146,000 developer accounts due to fraud concerns and denied registration to another 139,000 developers, preventing malicious actors from submitting their apps to the App Store from the start.

As for customer accounts, Apple rejected more than 711 million attempts to create customer accounts and deactivated nearly 129 million customer accounts over the past year, preventing these suspicious and malicious accounts from carrying out malicious activity.

Apple said that in 2024, it blocked approximately 4.6 million attempts to install or launch apps illegally distributed outside the App Store.
