Trump announces the establishment of the "American Golden Dome"
US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he had signed an order establishing the "Golden Dome" anti-missile defense system to protect the United States from attacks.
Trump spoke from the US military base in Qatar during his Gulf visit, which also included Saudi Arabia before heading to the UAE.
Addressing the troops, the US president announced that he would allocate the "largest military budget ever," boasting that the United States "has the most powerful military in the world."
Trump vowed to deliver a "decisive blow" to America's enemies, saying, "My priority is to end conflicts, but I will not hesitate to use force to defend our partners."
Golden Dome
Earlier this year, Trump said he intended to sign an executive order to begin building an air defense system for the United States similar to the Iron Dome, which Israel uses to intercept missiles.
“We need to start immediately building a state-of-the-art Iron Dome” for missile defense, Trump said during a Republican Party conference in Miami, coinciding with the inauguration of his new Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth.
According to a statement seen by CNN, the “Next Generation” missile defense shield would protect the United States from ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles, cruise missiles, and other advanced air attacks.
While no such weapons have been used against the United States in the modern era, the concept is inspired by the defense system the United States helped Israel build and deploy in the 2000s.
During his presidential campaign, Trump promised to create an “impenetrable dome” to protect the United States from attacks.
The US Secretary of Defense later spoke about the executive order, saying, "There are more executive orders coming that we fully support," emphasizing that among them is "America's Iron Dome."
According to the US President, the new system "will be made entirely in the United States."
