Trump: 'Nothing will happen' on Ukraine until I meet with Putin
Former US President Donald Trump said Thursday that he doesn't expect any progress in efforts to end the war in Ukraine until he meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who will not participate in the upcoming talks with Kyiv in Istanbul.
"I don't think anything will happen, whether you like it or not, until I meet with him," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he flew from Qatar to the UAE, referring to Putin.
In the same context, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated on Thursday that Russia and Ukraine must reach a "settlement" to end the conflict, expressing hope that intensive discussions between the two sides would yield tangible results.
During an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Antalya, Fidan reiterated Ankara's support for peace efforts, as Russian and Ukrainian delegations prepare to resume talks in Istanbul.
