French President Emmanuel Macron's office confirmed that he will host the victorious Paris Saint-Germain team on Sunday to congratulate them on their 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final.

In a separate message on Twitter, Macron hailed "a glorious day for Paris Saint-Germain," writing, "Bravo, we are all proud. Paris is the capital of Europe tonight."

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo also hailed the "historic" victory, speaking to reporters after the capital's team won the top prize in European club football for the first time.

Separately, Paris police said that scuffles broke out between fans near the city's Champs-Élysées and PSG's Parc des Princes stadium, where fans had gathered to watch the final on large screens.

They said they arrested 59 people, most of them for possession of fireworks.
