US President Donald Trump confirmed in an interview broadcast on Fox News on Sunday, June 29, that he had found a group of "very wealthy" individuals who wanted to buy TikTok, adding that he would announce their identities in about two weeks.

Trump made these comments during an interview on the news channel's program, indicating that the deal he is working on would likely require Chinese approval to move forward, suggesting that Chinese President Xi Jinping would likely approve it.

On Thursday, June 19, the US president signed an executive order extending the deadline for the sale of the Chinese short-video app TikTok in the United States by 90 days.

A 2024 US law requires TikTok to cease operations by January 19 unless ByteDance completes or makes tangible progress toward the sale.

Trump has extended the deadline three times so far, crediting the app with boosting his popularity among young voters during last November's presidential election.

Trump announced in May that he would extend the June 19 deadline, having previously extended it to early April.

Senate Democrats say Trump lacks the legal authority to extend the deadline.

This month, the US announced a key framework for a trade agreement with China after negotiations in London. The agreement includes Beijing supplying the US with magnetic materials and rare earth minerals in exchange for Chinese students being allowed to attend US colleges and universities.
