Harvard scientist warns: Mysterious object heading toward Earth may be from aliens
A prominent scientist has revealed that planet Earth is facing a "new and terrifying threat," and that a "strange and unfamiliar object" is currently rapidly approaching us. He said it could be "a hostile act targeting Earth from distant aliens, or perhaps an exploratory probe sent to learn about humanity."
A report published by the British newspaper "Daily Mail" quoted Harvard University astrophysicist Professor Avi Loeb as saying that there is new evidence indicating that the mysterious object heading toward Earth is a "spacecraft," confirming that this craft could collide with our planet before the end of this year.
Loeb and his research team found that the hypothetical comet, known as 3I/ATLAS, is traveling on a highly unusual trajectory that will take it within close proximity of three different planets: Venus, Mars, and Jupiter.
Loeb added that the trajectory of 3I/ATLAS is so rare that the probability of a natural space rock randomly passing along this path is less than 0.005%.
Based on these results, Loeb, who believes in the existence of aliens, concluded that this object heading toward us "could be a space probe sent to this solar system by an unknown intelligence, i.e., intelligent aliens, as well as a potentially hostile act against humans."
Loeb said that such a craft and the beings controlling it would have one of two motives: one harmless and the other hostile.
In their new study, Loeb and his team warned that "the consequences, if this hypothesis is true, could be dire for humanity, and defensive measures may be required, although these measures may be futile."
The researchers' theory stems from a grim scientific concept called the "Dark Forest" hypothesis, which posits that "other intelligent civilizations in the galaxy will be hostile and likely view humanity as a threat to be attacked."
In 2021, Loeb proposed the theory that Oumuamua, the first space object to pass through our solar system, may also have been an alien probe, citing its strange, cigar-like shape and ability to accelerate without the influence of gravity.
Last May, Professor Loeb was a keynote speaker at a congressional hearing on UFO sightings. During that hearing, he said, "There are objects in the sky that we don't understand," calling for increased funding for UFO detection.
Loeb also claimed that up to 10% of metal fragments recovered from the Pacific Ocean contain "exotic" elements not observed in our solar system.
These remnants came from a meteorite-like object that originated in interstellar space and crashed off the coast of Papua New Guinea in 2014. However, Loeb insisted that the object was likely a spacecraft, or at least debris from it.
