The US and Brazil are seeking to conclude a customs agreement before Trump's deadline expires.

Representatives from Brazil and the United States held a video conference on Friday to discuss a new customs agreement ahead of a deadline set by Donald Trump next Wednesday, according to local media outlet UOI.

UOI, citing unnamed Brazilian Foreign Ministry insiders, reported that the talks will continue in the coming days.

The Trump administration had indicated that reciprocal tariffs would return to the high levels they were at on April 2 on July 9 for countries that fail to reach an agreement aimed at reducing the US trade deficit.

Brazil makes a trade offer
Brazil made an offer two weeks ago to reduce some tariffs, provided the United States takes the initiative, but the White House has not responded, according to UOI.

For its part, Washington said on Friday that Brazilian tariffs remain too high, particularly on ethanol and some industrial products.

Meanwhile, BRICS leaders expressed "deep concern" over the escalation of unilateral tariff and non-tariff measures that distort trade flows, without explicitly mentioning the United States, according to a joint statement issued Sunday.
