A historic deal: OpenAI signs a $38 billion agreement with Amazon.

OpenAI , the developer of ChatGBT, has announced a massive $38 billion deal with Amazon for cloud computing services over the next seven years.
Under the deal, OpenAI will immediately begin using Amazon Web Services' capabilities, with a full deployment of the agreed computing power by the end of 2026, with the potential to expand into 2027 and beyond.

Independence from Microsoft

This deal comes just one week after an internal restructuring at OpenAI, which allowed it the freedom to deal with other providers without needing the approval of Microsoft, the company’s largest investor, according to a report published by TechCrunch and reviewed by Al Arabiya Business.

With this move, OpenAI opens a new chapter of diversity in computing sources, after years of almost complete reliance on Microsoft's infrastructure and its devices equipped with Nvidia chips.
Global expansion and massive investments

The deal with Amazon comes as part of OpenAI’s broader plan, which aims to increase its computing power to an unprecedented degree.
The company plans to spend more than $1 trillion over the next decade on building data centers and signing partnerships with global companies such as Oracle and SoftBank, in addition to collaborating with major chip manufacturers such as Nvidia, AMD, and Broadcom.

Concerns about an AI bubble

Some analysts believe that the massive pace of spending by technology companies could lead to an "AI bubble," with billions being poured into the infrastructure of a technology whose full economic viability is still uncertain.
Experts warn that the market may become saturated with computing power before real returns from large-scale artificial intelligence applications emerge.

This deal confirms that the race for dominance in artificial intelligence is no longer just about software, but also about the massive infrastructure that supports it.
With competition intensifying between OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon itself, control of cloud capabilities appears to be the deciding factor in determining who leads the artificial intelligence revolution in the coming years.
