"He entered through the ambulance gate"... Barcelona investigates: Who allowed Messi to visit the stadium?
The surprise visit of legend Lionel Messi to the "Spotify Camp Nou" stadium of his former team, Barcelona, on Sunday night, raised questions within the club's management, who confirmed that the visit was not pre-arranged.
Lionel Messi, the greatest player in Barcelona's history, returned to the "Spotify Camp Nou" stadium, where he played his last match in the Catalan club's jersey four and a half years ago, without any fuss. Football fans were surprised when the Argentine posted pictures of the visit on his official Instagram account, while the club's management, specifically President Joan Laporta, were in the city of Vigo watching the first team's match against Celta, which ended in a 4-2 victory.
The famous Catalan radio station RAC1 broadcast a report, citing its sources, that the Argentine player headed towards the stadium alone without prior coordination with the administration, and the stadium security personnel were surprised to find the greatest player in the club's history in front of them and allowed him to enter.
She added: Those close to Messi confirmed that Messi did not speak with anyone from the club's management, and that the visit was an expression of his love for the team in whose ranks he spent 20 years.
Spanish journalist Javi Miguel, who covers Barcelona news, wrote on his Twitter account: "Messi slipped in stealthily, taking advantage of Laporta's trip to Vigo. The relationship between the two doesn't seem to be good so far."
Laporta is accused of being the reason behind the exclusion of the player ranked as the best in history after the former decided not to proceed with contract extension negotiations due to the club's economic crisis, as he said afterwards: It was a difficult decision, but the most important thing is the entity, even more important than the best player in the history of the club.
The Catalan newspaper "Ara" also published a report stating that Messi entered the stadium through the gate used by ambulances and headed towards the south stand where he took the picture.
Messi played 778 matches for Barcelona over 17 years, making him the player with the most appearances in its history, and scored 672 goals with it, making him its all-time top scorer.
