FIFA announced that it received more than 500 million applications for tickets to the 2026 World Cup matches in America, Canada and Mexico, during the "random selection draw" phase that lasted only 33 days.

The federation explained on Thursday that this figure does not represent mere purchase requests, but is a "global statement" reflecting the unprecedented passion for the first edition featuring 48 teams, according to FIFA's official website.

This phase recorded an astonishing rate of 15 million applications per day, with applications coming from all countries and territories belonging to the 211 member associations of "FIFA".
FIFA confirmed that a match ticket does not guarantee entry to the World Cup host countries, urging fans to begin visa procedures immediately due to the complexity of the requirements.

He also noted that 90% of the revenue will be reinvested in the development of the game globally.
While the United States, Mexico and Canada (the host countries) topped the list of the most requested countries, they were followed by Germany, England, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina and Colombia.

The big surprise

The biggest surprise, however, was the "most requested match," with the Colombia vs. Portugal match scheduled to be held in Miami on June 27 topping the list of desires, even surpassing the final match in New York and the opening match in Mexico City, according to the German Press Agency (dpa).

Fans are scheduled to be notified of the results of their applications via email by February 5, 2026. Successful applications will be automatically charged, while losers will be given another chance in the "last minute sales" phase.
