A squirrel invades a football match in England, causing it to be suspended for over an hour.

A squirrel caused a League One football match between Hull City and Bristol City to be stopped after it invaded the pitch on more than one occasion.

The Hull City vs. Bristol City match will remain etched in the memory of everyone who attended the game at the MKM Stadium, which had a crowd of 20,848.

After Bristol City's third goal, the crowd was surprised when the match was stopped in the 54th minute because of a squirrel that ran across the pitch. This moment was followed by 3 minutes of funny chases and maneuvers before play resumed, only for the squirrel to return later and cause chaos.

The squirrel entered Bristol City's goal twice, amid loud cheers from the fans, and made its way up onto an advertising board.
A member of the Hull City pitch crew had been tasked with catching it so that

the match could continue, and it was no easy task as the fast creature continued to run away and evade the official, prompting fans to chant "The squirrel is attacking you" throughout the stadium.

Play then resumed after more than an hour, which clearly affected the Bristol goalkeeper, who conceded the home team's second goal in the 78th minute.
This is not the first time that animals or insects have caused major matches in various sports to be stopped. A tennis match in the quarter-finals in Indian Wells between

Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev was stopped due to a bee invasion in March 2024, and beetles reached Lord's Stadium, the cricket stronghold, in the summer of 2025, when Ben Stokes was hitting the ball against India before the insects stopped the game.
