Shock for X users: Price of access to X Pro service increased fivefold

The social media platform X has recently changed its subscription policy, restricting access to its advanced management tool “X Pro” (formerly known as TweetDeck) to users subscribed to its most expensive plan. The update has sparked discussion among users, particularly those who previously had access under cheaper subscription tiers.

“X Pro” is a web-based dashboard designed for managing multiple feeds, lists, and real-time content streams, and has long been used by journalists, marketers, and power users for monitoring activity more efficiently. Before its rebranding and restructuring under Elon Musk’s ownership of Twitter, the tool was widely known as TweetDeck and was freely available.

According to recent reports, access to X Pro was previously included in the standard “Premium” subscription, priced at around $8 per month. However, the platform has now moved this feature exclusively to the highest tier, known as Premium+, which costs approximately $40 per month. This represents a significant shift in how advanced tools are packaged within the platform’s subscription model.

Users were reportedly not given advance notice of the change, and many discovered the restriction only after losing access, leading to complaints across social media. The sudden adjustment has raised questions about transparency and communication with subscribers, especially those who rely on X Pro for professional or business use.

The platform states in its official help documentation that subscription features may change “at any time” as part of ongoing service improvements. It also outlines a three-tier system: a basic plan, a standard Premium plan, and the Premium+ tier, each offering different levels of features, including variations in advertising and tool access.

Under the current structure, the basic plan includes ads, the standard Premium plan reduces ad exposure, while Premium+ is positioned as the most complete version with expanded features and minimal advertising. The relocation of X Pro to the highest tier reflects a broader strategy of monetizing advanced tools and encouraging upgrades to premium subscriptions.

The decision highlights ongoing changes within X’s business model, as the platform continues to evolve its revenue structure while balancing user expectations, professional tool access, and subscription-based services.
