It seems that the surname "Pitt" continues to gradually disappear from the names of the children of international star Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, as Maddox has joined his siblings who have given up using their father's name, after he submitted an official request to adopt a new name that bears only his mother's surname.

Maddox, 24, has filed legal documents requesting to change his name from "Maddox Shivan Jolie" to "Maddox Shivan Jolie-Pitt," a move that is still awaiting official approval from the relevant authorities, according to TMZ.

This move was not surprising to followers, as Maddox had previously sparked speculation about his desire to drop his father's surname when his name appeared in the end credits of the movie "Couture" as simply "Maddox Jolie".

Maddox served as assistant director on the film, while his mother, Angelina Jolie, starred, portraying an American director diagnosed with breast cancer upon arriving in France to film a project related to Paris Fashion Week. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025, before its theatrical release in France in February 2026.

Maddox is not the only one of the couple's children to have taken this path. In 2024, Vivienne appeared in the credits of the Broadway play "The Outsiders" simply as "Vivien Jolie," after her mother co-produced the show.

Zahara also attracted attention at a 2024 event at Spelman College when she introduced herself as "Zahara Marley Jolie," dropping her father's surname. In May 2026, during her college commencement ceremony, her name was announced on stage using the same format, even though the official program still included her previous full name.

As for Shiloh, she completed the legal process of changing her name in August 2024, becoming "Shiloh Jolie" after previously being known as "Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt".
