Macron: Recognizing a Palestinian state is a "moral duty" and a "political demand"
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday that recognizing a Palestinian state is not "just a moral obligation, but a political demand."
During a press conference in Singapore, the French president listed several conditions for doing so.
Macron also stressed that Europeans must "toughen up their collective stance" toward Israel "if it does not provide a response commensurate with the humanitarian situation in the coming hours and days" in the Gaza Strip.
Macron arrived in Singapore on Thursday, the final stop of his tour of Southeast Asia, which also took him to Vietnam and Indonesia, according to the Élysée Palace.
During his visit to Indonesia last Wednesday, Macron emphasized that France wants a two-state solution to the issue between Israel and the Palestinians, expressing his desire to see an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a two-state solution.
He said there are no double standards in French policy toward the Middle East.
Speaking from Indonesia, Macron added, "Only a political solution will make it possible to restore peace and build long-term peace."
