Ziad Rahbani's funeral in Beirut... Fairuz weeps at his farewell
Lebanese mourners on Monday buried the late Lebanese artist Ziad Rahbani, who died at the age of 69. A large crowd turned out at Khoury Hospital in the Hamra district of Beirut, where the funeral procession set off for the Dormition of Our Lady Church in the town of Muhaydisa, Bikfaya.
Cameras captured Fairuz's arrival, accompanied by her daughter Rima, to bid farewell to her son.
The singer wore black sunglasses and black clothing. Scenes also showed the singer of "Salamli Aleih" wiping away her tears as she received condolences for the passing of Ziad Rahbani, amidst a large attendance of Lebanese art stars.
The Rahbani family announced the funeral date for the late artist Ziad, who passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 69.
The family mourned their loss and explained that the funeral prayer will be held at the Church of the Dormition of Our Lady in Muhaydisa, Bikfaya, Lebanon, at 4:00 PM tomorrow, Monday.
The funeral will be held at the same church on Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the reception of condolences will resume the following day, Tuesday, at the same time, according to local reports.
Khoury Hospital, where Ziad Rahbani was treated, announced in an official statement that at 9 a.m. yesterday, "Ziad Assi Rahbani passed away. The honorable family was notified immediately."
The hospital added, "Fate willed that this exceptional artist, who left a lasting mark on the history of Lebanese art, theater, and music, should pass away."
Ziad Rahbani suffered a long struggle with illness, specifically acute liver cirrhosis, which affected his artistic activity.
He was mourned by the President of the Lebanese Republic, Joseph Aoun, and the Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament, Nawaf Salam and Nabih Berri. A large number of artists across the Arab world also offered their heartfelt condolences.
