For €400 million, Ramos plans to buy his former club
Press reports have revealed that Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos is planning to take over his former club Sevilla, leading a group of foreign investors to submit a €400 million bid to acquire ownership of the club.
The Spanish newspaper Marca reported that Ramos, who returned to Sevilla in the 2023-2024 season and recently ended his experience with the Mexican club Monterrey, will not be the main investor in the deal, but he will be its most prominent figurehead, with an American investment fund participating in the group.
The offer includes the acquisition of 100% of the club's share capital, but it remains conditional on an accurate assessment of the current debt size, with an external audit to be conducted to determine the results.
A report published by "The Athletic" indicated that the most prominent points of uncertainty relate to the assessment of the loan granted by CVC to the majority of Spanish league clubs in 2021, including Sevilla, and whether it will be counted as part of the debts, as the club, like the league association,
believes that this participatory loan is not part of the debts, but counting it as such may affect the overall value of the purchase offer.
The bid led by Ramos is one of three that the club has received, along with another, more valuable bid from foreign investors.
Ramos progressed through the youth ranks of Sevilla's teams before moving to Real Madrid to become one of the most prominent football defenders in recent years.
The Spanish defender, who won the 2010 World Cup, moved to Paris Saint-Germain after leaving Real Madrid, before returning to his childhood team Sevilla for one season and then moving to Monterrey in Mexico.
