Real Madrid thrash Monaco 6-0, Arsenal defeat Inter Milan

Real Madrid, led by their new coach Alvaro Arbeloa, rained down six goals on their French visitors Monaco, 6-1, inflicting a heavy defeat on them on Tuesday night, while Arsenal strengthened their lead with a 3-1 away win against Inter Milan, in the seventh round of the UEFA Champions League.

In Madrid, French star Kylian Mbappe and Brazilian Vinicius Junior led their team to regain lost momentum and restore their winning rhythm in the prestigious continental competition, after their previous 1-2 defeat against Manchester City , thus gifting Arbeloa his first continental victory, and his second overall after the 2-0 win against Levante in the Spanish League.

Arbeloa, who succeeded Xabi Alonso as head of the "Merengues", began his journey at the head of the Royal Club with a shocking 2-3 loss to Albacete from the second division, thus exiting the Spanish Cup competition from the round of 16.

That loss, which came after the 2-3 defeat to arch-rivals Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final and which closed the book on Alonso, led to Real Madrid fans directing their anger at their players in the first half of the Levante match, particularly at English star Jude Bellingham and Brazilian Vinicius Junior, while Mbappe escaped the fans’ shouts, some of whom chanted for the departure of club president Florentino Perez.

But Real Madrid may find themselves with an exceptional opportunity to turn over a new leaf after benefiting from Barcelona's 1-2 defeat to Real Sociedad, reducing the gap with them to one point in the domestic league, while their victory on Tuesday boosted their Champions League tally to 15 points in third place temporarily.

In Milan, Arsenal returned with a seventh victory, maintaining a perfect record, at the home of the "Nerazzurri" with a score of 3-1.
Brazilian Gabriel Jesus shone, scoring a brace for the London club (10 and 31), before the third came through Swede Victor Gyokeres, while Croatian Petar Susic scored Inter's only goal (18).

With their third loss against four wins, Inter's tally remains frozen at 12 points in eighth place.
Paris Saint-Germain , the defending champions, continued their woes with a 1-2 defeat against their Portuguese hosts, Sporting.
Paris Saint-Germain dropped to fifth place with 13 points, while Sporting, also with 13 points, jumped to sixth place.
Tottenham moved up to fourth place with a 2-0 win over a numerically disadvantaged Borussia Dortmund side.
