Wearing sunglasses, the head of the Munich conference mocks Macron.

French President Emmanuel Macron had no idea that when he wore black sunglasses last January during the World Economic Forum in Davos, due to a minor eye infection, he would leave a lasting impression.

"What happened in Davos will not stay there."

Wolfgang Ischinger, chairman of the Munich Security Conference , decided to emulate the French president by wearing sunglasses during his speech at the important event. He added sarcastically, "What happened in Davos shouldn't stay in Davos," indicating his intention to repeat the gesture and wear the sunglasses like Macron.

French President Emmanuel Macron's wearing of sunglasses at the World Economic Forum in Davos sparked controversy and speculation.
He also provided free publicity for the manufacturer, who were inundated with purchase orders to the point that their online store went offline.

During his speech that day, Macron wore a dark blue suit, a white shirt, and a tie adorned with small light blue rectangles. He then added blue sunglasses to his look, which he did not remove even while speaking from the podium.

Ischinger was not alone, as US President Donald Trump commented on his French counterpart, saying: "I saw him yesterday wearing those stylish sunglasses. What the hell happened?"

Criticisms and the Élysée Palace clarifies

It is worth noting that Macron had made it clear that he had a minor problem with his eye, saying: "Please excuse my unsightly appearance." The French president had previously been seen without his glasses with his eye red and full of blood.

The president added jokingly: It is the “eye of the tiger” and a “symbol of determination.”

While some in France mocked Macron for wearing these glasses, suggesting that he was trying to imitate Tom Cruise in the movie "Top Gun," who wore similar glasses, the Elysee Palace issued a statement to reassure the public.

He explained that the irritation was caused by a burst blood vessel in his right eye, without any underlying disease or infection, and because the eye is sensitive to light, the president had to wear sunglasses during his appearance, according to Reuters.
