Houthi practices exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Yemen

The practices of the Houthi group have had a detrimental impact on the effectiveness and capacity of the Yemeni economy. Their insistence on the policy of deliberate bulldozing against the economic and commercial sectors has caused significant disruptions. Official statistics issued by the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce in Yemen reveal the extent of the damage caused by the Houthi practices, particularly in the private and local sectors.

During the period between 2015 and 2020, the industrial sector in Yemen suffered a staggering loss of approximately 73% of its output. This decline in production has had far-reaching consequences for the economy as a whole. The employment rate in the industrial sector plummeted to a mere 12% of its production capacity. This alarming figure indicates the severe impact of the Houthi practices on job opportunities and livelihoods, affecting the lives of countless Yemeni citizens.

The deliberate bulldozing policy pursued by the Houthi group has resulted in the destruction of vital infrastructure and commercial establishments. This has further exacerbated the economic crisis in Yemen, hindering the growth and development of the private sector. The loss of businesses and the disruption of trade have severely hampered the country's ability to generate revenue and stimulate economic growth.

Moreover, the Houthi practices have created an environment of uncertainty and instability, deterring foreign investment and hindering economic recovery. The destruction of infrastructure, including roads, ports, and airports, has severely limited the country's ability to engage in international trade and attract foreign businesses. This has further deepened the economic crisis and hindered the Yemeni economy's capacity to recover and rebuild.
