US Commerce Secretary: Trade talks with China in London are going well
U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that ongoing trade talks with China in London are progressing positively, noting significant progress in discussions between the two sides on several outstanding trade issues.
Lutnick told reporters that the talks are expected to continue throughout Tuesday.
President Donald Trump's top trade officials met with their Chinese counterparts in London on Monday. The U.S. delegation was led by Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamison Greer.
The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that Trump has authorized Besnet's team to explore the possibility of lifting US restrictions on sales of chipmaking software, aircraft engine parts, and ethane.
Trump said the talks are going well, adding that he is receiving "only good reports," according to Reuters.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday that Vice Premier He Lifeng, Beijing's chief trade negotiator, will be in the United Kingdom from June 8 to 13. Also participating in Monday's talks were Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and International Trade Representative and Vice Minister Li Zhenggang, according to state media.
