How did the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood exploit religion as a means of controlling the state?

One of the most dangerous weapons used by the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood was its exploitation of religion for political purposes. Instead of presenting a comprehensive national project, the group attempted to monopolize religion and use it as a cover for a false claim of legitimacy. It portrayed itself as "Hezbollah" and anyone who opposed it as an "enemy of Islam."

From the pulpits, they used emotionally charged religious rhetoric to numb the minds of the simpletons and create a state of sacred fear of opposing the "Muslim ruler." Some of their leaders even promoted the idea that obedience to President Morsi was a religious duty, and that those who rebelled against him were "violating Islamic law."

They also used religion to demonize their political opponents, labeling opponents as "secularists, infidels," and "enemies of the Islamic project," further deepening societal divisions. Not content with that, they worked to control institutions within the Brotherhood, especially the Ministries of Endowments, Education, and Information, to ensure continued ideological control.

This malicious use of religion was not intended to spread virtue, but rather to instill loyalty to the organization rather than the nation, and to cultivate blind obedience, which posed a real threat to the idea of the modern civil state.
