American climber scales the tallest building in Taiwan

On Sunday, American climber Alex Honnold successfully scaled Taipei 101 in Taiwan without using ropes or safety harnesses, amid the presence of thousands of fans who cheered him on and waved their hands as he climbed one of the tallest buildings in the world.

Honnold expressed feeling exhausted upon reaching the top of the skyscraper, after completing a 91-minute solo free climb, as part of an event organized and live-streamed by Netflix.
"What a beautiful way to see Taipei," Honnold told reporters after completing his mission, which had been delayed by one day due to rain
.
Taipei 101 stands at approximately 508 meters tall and is one of Taiwan's most prominent tourist attractions. It held the title of the world's tallest building from 2004 to 2010, before the title passed to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Honold climbed the tower without using any safety equipment, after obtaining approval from the building management and the city government to carry out this challenge.

Honold said after the climb was over: "What a great view, a very beautiful day. The wind was strong, so I was trying to balance carefully and not fall off the top. It was an amazing location, and a great way to see Taipei."

The professional climber completed the journey in one hour and 35 minutes.
The American climber added: "I hope this achievement inspires people to pursue their personal challenges and goals. Many people find the motivation they need to achieve what they want in their lives by watching such events."

When it opened in 2004, Taipei 101 was the tallest tower in the world, before being surpassed by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which became the tallest in the world.
Today, the Chinese tower ranks 11th among the tallest towers in the world.
