What is the reason behind Messi's anticipated visit to Trump at the White House?
Inter Miami will visit the White House in March to celebrate their 2025 Major League Soccer title win, with Argentine star Lionel Messi expected to attend, the Miami Herald reported Friday. The newspaper quoted an unnamed source at Inter Miami as saying that "everyone" on the team would attend the party with US President Donald Trump, two days before the team faces D.C. United in the US capital on March 7. Messi, 38, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from former US President Joe Biden in January 2025, the highest civilian award in the United States, but he did not attend the ceremony at the White House. Trump’s relationship with football has grown over the past few months, with him holding several meetings with FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Trump also participated in the Club World Cup trophy presentation ceremony held in America last year, and appeared on stage at the 2026 World Cup draw, where Infantino used the occasion to award the president FIFA's first "Peace Prize". Inter Miami concluded a series of international friendlies on Thursday with a 2-1 win over Independiente del Valle in Puerto Rico. The team had lost to Los Angeles FC in their season opener in the league, and are preparing to face Orlando City on Sunday.
