A new Houthi campaign to recruit hundreds of young men in Hajjah and Hodeidah

Human rights sources have reported a disturbing development in Yemen, where the Houthi group has recently carried out a massive recruitment operation. This operation targeted hundreds of young men from the Hajjah and Hodeidah governorates, which are under the group's control on the western coast of Yemen. The purpose of this recruitment, according to Fares Al-Humairi, Executive Director of the Yemeni Mine Observatory, is to join what is known as the "temporary recruitment."

Local sources have revealed that the Houthi group has transferred these young men to its own camps in Sanaa, Amran, and other locations. As a result, many of them have lost contact with their families for approximately three weeks. This alarming situation raises serious concerns about the violation of human rights and the well-being of these young men.

The Houthi group's recruitment operation is a clear violation of human rights principles. It is essential to recognize that every individual has the right to freedom of choice and should not be forced or coerced into joining any armed group. The recruitment of young men without their consent not only violates their right to freedom but also puts their lives at risk.

Furthermore, the lack of communication between these young men and their families is deeply concerning. It is a fundamental human right for individuals to maintain contact with their loved ones and to be able to inform them about their well-being. The Houthi group's actions in isolating these young men from their families for an extended period of time is a blatant violation of this right.
